Introduction to Kuching City Parking Systems Sdn. Bhd.Founding and historyKuching City Parking Systems Sdn. Bhd. (KCPS) is the brainchild of Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Bin Mahmud, the Chief Minister of Sarawak. It is a joint venture between both the Kuching City Authorities, Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU), Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan (MBKS) and a local company Rezeki Tinggi Sdn. Bhd. (RT) where City Authorities are holding majority shares (52%) in KCPS. It is the idea of Pehin Sri that the bulk of parking revenues collected should go directly back to the City Authorities. This will directly benefit the Kuching City residents as City Authorities will have the additional revenues to implement projects quickly instead of waiting for funds from the Sarawak State Government. Since its operation starting February 1 2005, the Kuching City Authorities of DBKU and MBKS have enjoyed a triple monthly guaranteed parking bays rental income with an additional 52% year end dividend from KCPS as compared to the former concession holder. KCPS has been able to create good working relationship with the respective City Authorities parking and enforcement departments. This relationship is vital and important for KCPS to effectively and efficiently manage the car parking bays for both the City Authorities of Kuching. KCPS has also created better working atmosphere for its 150 employees with medical benefits, good employer employees relationship, high incentive schemes and many others. KCPS has even taken steps to set up a kedai korperasi barang runcit'to offer cheaper than market daily necessities to help them save and budget their spending. KCPS also recognize that good and efficient management of the car parks will create good impression and relationship for both the City Authorities and the State Government with the general public. KCPS has been regularly going down on the ground to create good and friendly relationship with the Kuching motorists'by constantly educating, listening and understanding their car parking problems to improve and better manage the car parks in Kuching City. With much lesser complaints there has been an increase in the payments respect rate, thus a decrease in parking compound offences and tedious and time consuming court cases. SHAREHOLDERSKCPS is 52% owned by Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara and Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan and 48% by Rezeki Tinggi Sdn. Bhd. KCPS is registered as a parking contractor with the Kementerian Kewangan Malaysia. (Federal Finance Office) The Directors of KCPS are as follows:
KCPS was founded to provide the best management; the best electronic process (hardware and software) available in the market for higher efficiency, a maximum fixed monthly income with profit sharing provisions, and database of frequent and casual parkers, loyalty program, and friendly well trained parking wardens. OBJECTIVES OF CONTROLLED PARKINGAs towns and cities grow in size, they face the invariability of over-crowding and a congested traffic system. City Authorities strive towards a regulated smooth traffic flow and a parking system which they can control.
